Description

Literacy Tutor Math Corps Position Overview:

If you believe all children deserve quality math instruction and want to ensure that all middle school students excel in math, you belong on our team!

Math and reading skills are the foundation for educational success and opportunities in life, yet many children are not provided the necessary time and resources to build this foundation.

The Literacy Lab recognizes that ensuring all students have strong math skills is an urgent and critical need. We partner with middle schools to provide evidence-based math interventions to enhance student math outcomes.

Tutors serve in a full-time capacity at a single school site, working with a caseload of students in groups of 2-3 who need math support. They deliver age-appropriate math interventions, monitor student progress, and implement feedback from expert coaches to ensure each child receives support tailored to their individual needs.

Tutors are a part of the school community and work to build strong relationships with students, teachers, and other staff. In addition, tutors participate in community-based volunteer opportunities.

At minimum, tutors must:
Serve in a full-time capacity (38-40 hours/week)
Commit to serving through the end of the year (December 2022)
Participate in volunteer opportunities at school and in the community
Implement feedback from coaches and program staff
Utilize specific data-based and scripted math interventions and assessments
At minimum, applicants must:
Be at least 17 years old
Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalency
Have served no more than 3 previous AmeriCorps terms
Be able to pass AmeriCorps and school background checks
