Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Academic Department Coordinator position. The Academic Department Coordinator is a 35-hour per week (academic year), 25-hour per week (summer) position, starting at $24.57 – commensurate with experience. Given Amhersts distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

The Academic Department Coordinator provides administrative support and guidance to the English department. As a primary contact for our diverse students, faculty, staff, vendors, and the public, the position is a key resource in representing the department and often is the first point of contact for emergency issues. Responsibilities include overseeing and monitoring fulfillment of requirements for majors; developing and managing academic timetables; creating, administering, and preparing junior faculty teaching evaluations for official college records; administering department contests and facilitating monetary prize awards; pursuing copyright permissions; tracking the billing for the creation of course material; organizing thesis proposals and evaluations and the logistical arrangements for formal thesis defenses; event-planning for a number of small and large-scale department events; and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for our diverse community. In addition, the position manages some department web pages and much of the office equipment, maintains some supplies for the department, and participates in college committee work as opportunities arise.
