Description

Vocational CTE Assistant – Health Assisting Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills

Candidate will assist instructor(s) in the Health Assisting shop and related theory classrooms. Knowledge of the competencies and skills required of students in Health Assisting field is essential. The candidate will have an understanding of curriculum development, students learning styles and possess the ability to work with all students in assisting the technical instructor in delivering quality programming to prepare the students to meet the demands of the modern workplace. Candidate will translate and assist with the communication with ELL students, primarily Spanish speaking students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist instructor with teaching the Massachusetts Health Assisting Frameworks and modifies them to different learning styles and student backgrounds
Assist instructor with teaching occupational skills and knowledge to provide students with the competence to become skilled in their field.
Assist instructor with demonstrating occupational materials, equipment, instruments, and processes using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aides.
Assist instructor in guiding students in the selection and performance of appropriate activities and the attainment of required competencies
Assist instructor with providing individual and group instruction appropriate to the needs of the students and the requirements of the activities being performed.
Works with the teacher, CTE Director, and Co-op coordinator in making sure students have work-based experiences, including co-ops.
Instructs students in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of instruments and equipment.
Controls the storage, maintenance and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse.
Establishes and maintains standards of student conduct to pro
vide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in an activity-type classroom.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION Education/Formal Training Required:

Experience in the workplace in specific Career and Technical Education Technical training areas (Licensed tradesperson preferred).
Candidate should be motivated to begin the process towards Career and Technical Education Certification; however certification is not a requirement for the position.
Characteristics which clearly incorporate a team concept and indicate ability to relate positively to high school students and colleagues.
Possess personal and professional history which is exemplary and supported with references.
Knowledge of shop safety, hand tools, power tools and equipment for specified shop areas required.
The candidate must be able to inspire excellence, and prepare the students for social responsibility, employment, and postsecondary education in order to effectively meet our mission with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.

Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree or higher; OR Completing at least two years, or 48 credit hours of study at an institution of higher education, or equivalent work experience
Training or experience working in a health care or related field
CNA certification preferred
Experience working in an urban setting, preferred
Experience working with diverse student populations, preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills
