TITLE: ATHLETIC TRAINER
TYPE: Non-Union, Cycle II
SALARY: Per Terms of Employment for Non-Union Personnel, Cycle II
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, seven (7) hours per day
School Year (180 days)

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Athletics

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform the role of a certified athletic trainer.
2. Provide and assist coaches with preventative programs as needed, including: physical conditioning; environmental safety and
physical hazards; equipment safety; and athletic training and counseling.
3. Provide athletic injury management, including: injury recognition; functional capacity evaluation; acute care, including emergency
first aid; supervised rehabilitation; and concussion recognition and management.
4. Maintain an accurate log of injuries, treatments, progress and outcome.
5. Apply and assist athletics in applying protective taping, wraps, bracing, and dressings.
6. Make appropriate medical referrals when indicated and provide sound counsel to athletes and parents in seeking proper medical
assistance and follow-up.
7. Develop and maintain protocols for emergency care, with the approval of the School Nurse and School Medical Inspector/School
Physician, keeping coaches informed of the Emergency Action Plan for all sports.
8. Maintain a cooperative working relationship with the School Nurse and other health care professionals.
9. Advocate the position that all student athletes must put academics first.
10. Work with the instructional staff in developing curriculum, modifying instruction and selecting the materials used to meet the State
Core Curriculum Content Standards for a comprehensive health education program.
11. Responsible for the requisition of the necessary medical supplies in accordance with the school budget.
12. Ensure that the training room and any other facility involved in high school sports medicine program are maintained in an orderly,
functional and sanitary manner.
13. Conduct or provide health related staff development sessions for coaches and school personnel, and
14. Educational programs for parents.
15. Attend athletic events as directed by the Athletic Director.
16. Maintain an inventory of training supplies.
17. Maintain in safe working condition and operate electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and
responsibilities.
18. Be available to help injured athletes exercise during lunch or physical education periods.
19. Maintain a daily log of training room use and records of treatment.
20. File insurance claims and other required reports in a timely fashion.
21. Notify immediately appropriate personnel of any evidence f substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, sever medical conditions,
potential suicide, or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic steroids.
22. Advocate a healthy and responsible life style by educating students on the harmful effects of substances (e.g. alcohol, tobacco,
controlled substances and ergogenic aids), total physical fitness, and healthy habits for a lifetime of vigorous living.
23. Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated
with the school.
24. Protect confidentiality of records and information about students and staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information
within legal confines.
25. Any other duties as required by the Athletic Director or Superintendent of Schools, or his/her designee.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor’s Degree
2. Massachusetts State Certification
3. Evidence of successful experience in working with student athlet
