DEERFIELD $1,000 SIGN ON BONUS

Position Description

Deerfield Academy has a unique opportunity for a versatile candidate to work during our academic year in our award-winning Dining Hall as a Cook. At the conclusion of the academic year, the individual in this role will transition to our Facilities Department to support our Custodial or Grounds teams for up to 10 weeks in the summer months.

Reporting to the Production Manager and in collaboration with the Chef & Special Events Chef, the Cook is responsible for the service and preparation of food in the dining hall.

Primary Responsibilities include: cook various dishes including meats, vegetables, starches, soups, and other items for service at both sit-down and cafeteria-style meals; prepare various ingredients including vegetables, fruits, and meats as directed for use in standardized recipes; use commercial kitchen equipment including ovens, steamers, kettles, ranges, fryers, mixers and slicers; clean and sanitize commercial kitchen equipment; clean and sanitize work areas, food storage areas, sinks, carts, racks, and all other areas and items used for food preparation and service; set up and maintain various food stations, buffets, and beverage areas; maintain and sanitize dining tables; serve food for both sit-down and cafeteria-style meal services; provide excellent customer service to all guests in the dining hall and provide direction as needed to Food Service Workers.

Primary Facilities responsibilities may include: Assisting the custodial team to clean and maintain buildings ensuring all assigned areas are cleaned on a daily basis and/or assisting the grounds team to maintain the physical aspects of the campus grounds, school-owned houses, and athletic fields.

Qualifications include: Completion of 12th grade or equivalent; 1 – 3 years of experience in food service, food preparation, sanitation, and safety practices in a commercial kitchen; ServSafe certification required, or willingness to become certified; significant experience with proper methods of cooking various food items, ability to meet schedules and deadlines; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively; ability to understand hazards and follow safety procedures when using chemicals and equipment and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community.

Sign-on Bonus – The successful candidate will receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus ($500 paid at the time of hire and $500 at the end of 90 days.) Deerfield offers competitive pay and a generous benefits package including health, dental, retirement, and paid time off.
