Salary: Grade A12, Pay range is $60,593.76 – $78, 237.36 annual salary
Licenses/Certifications: Local Building Inspector Certification (Certified Building Official)

SUMMARY
The City of Chicopee’s | Building Department is hiring an Assistant Building Commissioner responsible for enforcing the provisions of the Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR), the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board (521 CMR), the Massachusetts State Sanitary Code, 105 CMR410, other codes adopted by the State. as well as the City of Chicopee Ordinances for the safety and protection the general public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE
– Whenever, by reason of absence, illness or other cause, the Building Commissioner is unable to perform the duties of the Building Department, the Assistant Commissioner shall perform such duties and when doing so shall exercise all powers and assume all responsibilities of the Building Commissioner. The Assistant Commissioner shall provide responsible administrative supervision over all functions of the Building Department involving the planning, organizing, staffing coordination and management of the Building Department.
– May attend meetings of the City Council or other city committees and department concerning the operation of the Building Department.
– Conducts regular meetings to provide advice, assistance, and direction on administrative problems and construction projects.
– Confers as needed with the Mayor, City Council, Board of Health, Community Development, Fire Department, Law Department, Planning Board or any other department within the City.
– Confers as needed with regional and/or state agencies and various organizations to advance public safety and
– departmental mission.
– Respond to after-hour calls and Inspections requests from Police Department, Fire Department and Building Commissioner.

QUALIFICATIONS
To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria:
– Must have at least five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design or in the alternative two year Associate’s Degree in a field related to building construction or design or any combination of education and experience which would confer equivalent knowledge and ability , as determined by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards.
– Must have a general knowledge of: quality and strength of building materials, accepted requirements for building construction, fire prevention, light ventilation and safe exits and other equipment and materials essential for safety, comfort, and convenience of the occupants of a building or structure.
– Certification by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards in accordance with the provision of 780 CMR.

This role is classified in the UFCW Administration Union, as Grade A12, pay range is $60,593.76 – $78, 237.36 annual salary with periodic step and pay increases on upon continuous completion of employment with the City of Chicopee (dependent on the starting step).
