Description

PURPOSE

The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Accounting Manager supervises the bookkeeper and is responsible for ensuring that work is completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, reconciliations, year end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Accounting Manager will have contact with other managers which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close and associated financial reporting.
Assist the CFO in the daily banking requirements.
Ensure Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
Supports budget and forecasting activities.
Collaborates with the other department managers to support overall company goals and objectives.
Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
Work with the CFO to ensure a clean and timely year end audit.
Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the accounting workflow.
Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
Support CFO with special projects and workflow process improvements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: Bachelor Degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting. Five years experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area.
Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast -pace setting. Experience with Quickbooks a plus. Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel and Word and the Google suite.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee performs the majority of duties on the second floor in a standard building. Incumbent occasionally works holiday hours and is required to:
Reach, handle, grasp and finger keyboard/cash machine
Sit for an extended period of time
Raise or lower up to 15 lbs of weight from time to time (i.e. supplies, materials, ream of paper)
Exert force by pushing & pulling items (i.e. filing cabinet drawers)
Stooping, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles (i.e. lower drawer filing, items from safe)
Walk at will over uneven, icy and snow-covered footpaths
